Are The Tides Turning?
You betcha!
As mom and I were driving back home the day after the funeral, we saw a few people with signs on the side of the road. Now this is in a very residential neighborhood—leafy trees, long stretches of road with manicured land on either side. I remembered it was 50501 Protest Day and thought, well, at least there are a few people out.
But as we neared the large rotary of Lander Circle, there were at least a couple hundred people around the circle, on the roads leading off from the circle….everywhere! We were so excited and I honked as we drove through, sticking my “thumbs up” out the window.
Later that evening I had a conversation with someone and we argued about whether or not protests make a difference, or even if there was anything we can do.
If you know me, you know I got a little excited because I love to argue…especially when I’m right.
Let me make my case:
Evidence #1: It’s Individual Actions That Add Up
Last night we went to see the Frida Kahlo and Mary Reynolds exhibit at the Art Institute. The focus was on the month that Kahlo lived with Reynolds and her partner, Marcel Duchamp, in their Paris apartment.
A little known fact at the end of the exhibit is what really stayed with me. Reynolds stayed in Paris and joined the French Resistance. Even after the Nazi’s had stormed into the city, she continued to use her apartment to hide people and documents and only left when the Gestapo was about to arrest her.
I had never heard of Mary Reynolds and I bet those who have know about her as a member of the Paris arts scene and a talented bookbinder.
But what I will remember her for is her acts of resistance.
She was one woman, an American living in Paris whose partner and friends had left for the New York. She chose to remain in order to resist, to play her small role in defeating evil.
Individual acts of resistance snowball into large movements which snowball into changing public opinion which snowball into increased pressure on politicians.
This is how we win.

Evidence #2-Tesla Has Been Taken Down.
The Saturday Tesla Takedown protests happening at dealerships across the country are most definitely working. The latest numbers show a significant drop in the company’s value (from which muskrat gets most of his wealth). What’s significant?
Well, let’s look at this year’s numbers vs. the same period last year:
Q1 2025: Tesla shares are down 41% this year. The company’s net income was 409 million, reflecting a 71% drop from the same quarter last year.
Wait, there’s more. TechCrunch reports: Tesla’s income was buffered by selling $595 million in zero-emissions tax credits, according to its earnings report — without those, it would have posted a loss.
Result? Guess who isn’t going to work at DOGE anymore?!
Evidence #3-Supreme Court Grows A Spine
Last week you may remember that the Court delivered it’s stop the deportations order at 1:30AM. That’s right, they couldn’t even wait until the morning to tell voldemort to stop deporting people just because he wants to.
The order read, “The government is directed not to remove any member of the putative class of detainees from the United States until further order of this court.”
This is the same court who last year basically said a president could do as he pleased with no fear of legal responsibility. Now, even the Roberts Court doesn’t trust these people.
Result? There are buses idling in Texas just itching to deport hundreds of people but so far, they are still in the parking lot.
Evidence #4-The Polls Are Terrible (or put another way, people are paying attention)
You don’t have to look far to see the worsening drop in support for voldemort and his policies. G. Elliot Morris is something of a poll whisperer and his Substack really delves into the numbers. But here’s a quick chart he shared from the latest Harvard IOP Youth Poll:
There is a LOT of RED in this poll!
Result? Even Fox News is getting terrible polling numbers and Trump is telling them to fire its pollster because of “fake data.”
